Girl on facebook: Hi, I know we haven't met before and I don't really know who you are and I think we added each other because we had a mutual friend or something like that.. but I wanted to let you know something that has been really bugging me. I totally respect free speech and everybody's right to post whatever they feel like on their own facebook and I definitely think if you don't like what someone posts you should just delete them, which is what I will be doing after I send this but I wanted you to know something which has really offended me. I am a Christian, I have been my whole life. My grandparents took me to church and I've been baptized and confirmed and all that jazz. I actually decided on my own to take on this faith, not under the pressure of either of my parents or grandparents as they respect the religious decisions of my whole family, for example they totally respect that my brother is an atheist. I feel that Christians and any religious people have a very bad reputation because of the very few religions and religious people who are total dicks. Many religions, including mine, are completely accepting of gay people. The last church I went to even had a gay minister. I think it is very hypocritical for someone who posts about accepting homosexuals and gay rights to post such vicious and hurtful things about religion. Never once have I ever felt more personally attacked then when I was reading posts from your facebook. I totally agree that Catholics who bash gays are completely awful and could not be more wrong about God (who in my mind absolutely loves gay people!) and I totally agree that they should keep their awful thoughts to themselves but to generalize all religions and all religious people is just as bad as saying all gay people have great fashion sense and have gay lisps or that all lesbians are manly. I think it's very hypocritical of someone who claims to be accepting of everyone and all sexualities but does not respect other's religious choices. I am a Christian and I have gay friends, I have gay family members and gay people at my church. And I am not the only one who thinks this way. Please at least think about how hurtful something is before you post it, because it does not make you any better than the people you bash.
Me: I'm sorry you took the pictures I shared from atheist groups on facebook personally. But, I will not ever support any religion that condones slavery, homophobia, hypocrisy, abuse towards women, not eating shellfish or masturbating. As a Christian, you should know that you're supposed to spread the good news of the Lord. As someone like myself, who is completely against the religious books and ignorant religious people, I feel like I should not tolerate such hate. And thus, I post my views on the judaeo-christian faith on facebook. I have nothing against spirituality. I'm a wiccan myself. but I do not appreciate the bible, the quran or the reputation it has. I understand your own personal realtionship with whatever god you believe in is important, I agree! But supporting the christian churches, muslim mosques, and jewish synagogues is not something I will stand for, and I let facebook know that. Thanks.
